MTA NSW Sponsored Aussie Racing Cars Driver at Adelaide 500

Round 1 –  Adelaide 500

3 March

18- year old Kody Garland has continued his strong form from competing in the Australian Kart Championships to taking the next step in his motorsport career and competing in the Aussie Racing Cars series.  Kody said during this transition, “it is set to be a busy year for us with a lot of good things to come.”

Kody started the opening day of the 2019 Aussie Racing Cars series with a great start and position.  “Pretty good day here, first ever time on the track. I finished the session inside the top 10 which we were pretty happy with,” said Kody. Unfortunately, the car had brake failure causing Kody to run into another car and then hit a wall. Determined to regain his position Kody said, “in all it was still a good day, considering the pace we had for my first time and will be pushing extra hard tomorrow!”

“Much better day at the office today!” said Kody on Day 2. With only one race to run and starting in 24th place due to the previous day’s events, Kody was able to leave behind veteran racers and advance to 13th position in only 4 laps. “After that it was a one lap sprint to the finish where I made up one more spot to p12 and getting the 4th fastest lap of the race,” Kody said.

Starting in 12th position at the next race, Kody made his way up to 7th place and finished inside the top ten for the final race saying he was, “pretty happy to be inside the top ten at my first race. Keen as for tomorrow’s race and will be pushing hard.”

Unfortunately, it was not the day Kody had anticipated given how hard he had pushed to move from 24th to 7th place in the qualifier. Halfway through the warm up lap around the circuit the fuel pump failed. Kody reflected on his experience and spoken like a seasoned racing champion saying, “disappointing for all of us but it was out of our control. Counting the days until Round 2!”

MTA NSW congratulates Kody and his team on an outstanding first Round effort at Adelaide.

The Aussie Racing Cars Series returns for Round 2 at Tasmania’s SuperSprint on April 5-7.
