Deadly Takata Scandal

"Drivers who fail to have replacement airbags fitted to cars affected by the deadly Takata scandal may be blocked from registering their vehicles under proposals being considered by the ACCC.

Leading car makers including BMW, Mazda and Mitsubishi have urged authorities to pull cars off of the road if customers do not respond to voluntary recalls already in place.

The ACCC published submissions from car makers, dealer groups and consumer advocates on Monday surrounding proposed mandatory recalls for vehicles affected by exploding Takata airbags."
